Taste the Blood
She never waited up,
the candle in her window blew out with her luck
And as the wax coated her skin,
the house came down, she laughed at last at him
And could I have wished for more
From the writing that I found upon the prison walls
The words of men who taught us how to sing
Words of everything, and sweet nothings
‘Cos it’s a fine line between taking what you need and needing what you take
I’m glad the paint’s run out for us
No one can touch us now or, tar us with a dirty brush
And you know that you’ve seen too much
When you have hit the canvas hard and you can taste the blood
They’ll be leaving the warrens in scores
The sooner you know there’s no escaping the Awsla
No the pictures just aren’t turning with the page
There’s no second chance for love, no final chance to change
‘Cos it’s a fine line between taking what you need and needing what you take
I’m glad the paint’s run out for us
No one can touch us now or, tar us with a dirty brush
And you know that you’ve seen too much
When you have hit the canvas hard and you can taste the blood
Cos I’m a spitfire and these wings the’re too close to the sun
We went back to the city for the last time
See there are times to fight, and there are times to run
And it’s time to run

Warlords

Warlords
See you, you didn’t ask politely
You pushed in at the start, all covenants and arcs
Or so I have been told
Have you, abandoned your tomorrows
In your image we were made and we’re paying every day
Or so It has been sold
Lighter than a butterfly
I am an undeserved applause, the sharpest note that cuts the chord
And just when harmony’s restored, I’ll show you Warlords
I’ve heard, there are countless others like you
Stare at me through many lives, I’ll blacken your compact eye
A prophecy foretold
Is this what you called surrounded?
Is this what passes for the helplessness in store
So It has been sold
Lighter than a butterfly
I am the distance from the shore, a measurement of your remorse
In all directions untoward, I’ll be your warlord
I’ll give you warlords

Priest
And as I hold you together, I tire as my arms start to go
They say, I’ve been waisting endeavour
Reconciling jester and throne
The wait, wasn’t long in this safe place
I can still hear the bricks as they moan
The trick was in keeping a straight face
As I told you that i’d seen it all
As I told you that i’d seen it all
I hope you die in your sleep
Hope that Lucifer greets you with open arms, eyes and flames
One of us has got to pay
I hope you die in your sleep
Hope that Lucifer greets you with open arms, eyes and flames
Was it all, so unsatisfactory
Had the horizon limboed too low
Was the hour, not of the gravest
Had the time passed a little too slow
Had the time passed a little too slow
I hope you die in your sleep
Hope that Lucifer greets you with open arms, eyes and flames
You always wait too long, let the moment carry the song
And let the winds of change, blow across our weathered veins
I hope you die in your sleep
Hope that Lucifer greets you with open arms, eyes and flames
One of us has got to pay
I hope you die in your sleep
Hope that Lucifer greets you with open arms, eyes and flames

All My Sorrows Have Grown Gills
All my sorrows have grown gills
And they will not be drowned
Smile as I hold them under
Giggles in the corridors echo through the reservoirs
Now my sorrows have grown bolder
More accustomed to the dark
Breathing life in the dead of night
Footsteps of the baying mob
Hound me through the shadows
Today
Shed the light, light on , light on now
Shed the light, light on , light on
All my sorrows have grown claws
and they will not be tamed
They grow even though i’m starving them
Scraping at the cellar door
Every sin’s a cardinal today
Shed the light, light on , light on now
Shed the light, light on , light on
All my sorrows have grown wings
Though they will not migrate
They wait to be clipped, slip out of my grip
There’s nothing in the sky at all, clouds and silver linings blown away
Shed the light, light on , light on now
Shed the light, light on , light on
